Reinvention of the wheel

Well, when I saw its rating and genre on IMDB, I was a bit skeptical for Its a boy-girl thing was a rom-com with a 6.3 on 10. IMDB ratings have been misleading previously and I wasnt sure I wanted to watch it. But what the heck, right? I'd seen Samaire Armstrong previously in The O.C. but wasnt exactly exposed to her acting talent and As for Kevin Zegers, he also had a sidey role in the Jane Austen Book Club which was also only an Austen-fan-only kinda movie.

A Girl Boy Thing is nothing new. What I realised after watching it is that its so easy to typecast characters. I mean its totally easy to make a stereotypical movie and get away with it. How come nobody questions anything? Boy meets girl, they're quite the opposites, they fall in love, there's some rich parent-single parent-poor parent thing and the kids pack off to somewhere, newly in love and all that bull. Bang, one and a half hours gone!

Anyway, this is not supposed to be a review. This an open question post. Why don't people ever go and explore? Why are we always stuck with stereotypical ideas and words and fancies? Like Yale for example. I mean its old school and all, but what the heck? Grow up, look around, but just dont stop asking million questions. Cuz guess what? Its fun to know. Only when you open your eyes will you see things. You cant see stuff thats not there.

I generally avoid cliched movies and this one was one of 'em. By th way, if you're looking for cute blondes, Brooke D'Orsay is the perfect ditzy blonde who flashes a bit towards the end of the movie.

Cashback (2006), on the other hand, didnt turn out to be a bad movie at all. At first I thought it was gonna be another flop Art School Confidential but since I watched it in 2 parts, that notion sorta went away. The first half was excruciatingly slow and pompous though. Cashback apparently comes from a short 18-min film (watchable on YouTube and something tells me that's been well drafted and it has). Given as much as 2 hours of space, the director clearly didnt know what to do with so much time and has hence cleverly added a lot of noodes to the film to keep you glued. However, the second half is pretty interesting. It is, what I may call, a slow film. But it has its ups and downs.

For one, the confusion of the youth is so apparent in these movies. Not like its a new subject or invention of the wheel, yet they all seem to look at it in the same way. Social norms. And well, it is like that. I say it is real life that is in movies and movies in real life. And trust me, they're not the same.

So long till I watch another movie.
